A Space Journey to the Future: The Elevator Experience at the Museum of the Future
When visitors enter the Museum of the Future in Dubai, the experience is designed to feel like the beginning of a journey into space and the future.
After entering the building and passing through the initial areas, visitors gather in a specially designed elevator that acts as a simulated spacecraft cabin. The moment the doors close, the environment inside the elevator changes dramatically.
Large digital screens cover the walls and ceiling, and the elevator transforms into what appears to be a space launch capsule. Through immersive visuals and sound effects, visitors experience what feels like a space flight leaving Earth. The screens show the planet from above, satellites orbiting in space, and the vast darkness of the universe. Vibrations, lighting, and sound enhance the illusion of acceleration and movement.
During this short journey, it feels as if the elevator is no longer simply moving between floors of a building but instead travelling through space toward a future space station. The simulation creates the impression that all visitors inside the elevator are astronauts on a mission to the year 2071, the time setting for the museum’s main exhibition.
When the elevator doors open, visitors “arrive” at the fictional OSS Hope Space Station, where the museum’s narrative begins.
